Default Me/R + IW + Bow = Failure?

I guess I should have asked this before I created my Mesmer with Ranger secondary, but IW does work with Bows right? I mean, it would be kind of stupid if it didn't. Wish I would have made sure of this before buying max armor yesterday.

No, it's melee only. Don't get too depressed though, IW sucks anyway.

Unfortunately, IW only works with Melee weapons.

If you made armor specced for illusion, there are plenty of decent PvE illusion builds to work with.

Just change your secondary profession, anyway, being a ranger doesn't makes you use a bow. My ranger enjoy with his scythe.

Ah But ME/R Fevered Dreams Is a Blast so don’t throw away the bow yet.

Bleeding
Poison

On all targets is great

find:

Ineptitude
Clumsiness
Wandering Eye (Phantom Pain or Images of Remorse if you don't have EOTN. Cry of Pain works here too.)
Arcane Conundrum
Epidemic
Glyph of Lesser Energy (GoLE is the prefered E-management, others can take its place though)
Power Drain (synergizes with arcane conundrum)/Energy Tap (If you're not confident with interrupts) or another energy management skill
Res Sig

8+1 FC
12+1+1 Illusion
rest in Inspiration

Aim AC at a group of casters if they huddle together, otherwise find a good target. Hit the melee with ineptitude first then use epidemic when others get close to that monster to blind them all. Spam clumsiness and wandering eye on the other melee enemies to rack up the damage and keep them interrupted. Power Drain important spells or just use it to keep up your energy.

This setup > all melee (and some casters) encountered in all of GW. It deals good damage but, more importantly, adds defense to a team.If you're going through an area with alot of spellcasters though, just go Domination.

Doesn't the skill description say when attacking in melee?

[skill]illusionary weaponry[/skill]

As seen, yes it does specify melee.

[skill]Serpent's Quickness[/skill] is good too (instead of wasting an elite [skill]mantra of recovery[/skill]).

OP, you can still use a Ranger stance to increase your attack speed and just use a melee weapon with IW. I know it isn't what you wanted, but that's all I gots.

Or you could play standard Mesmer with Serpent's Quickness...or something like that.

Lol, My first char was a mesmer and most of the time up to the southern shiverpeaks he used a bow, with about 10 points specced in bow mastery and then cast spells, great fun.

I'm sure you have seen this build as well, but I couldn't find it listed so I'll try to remember what most of it was:

[skill]Maiming Strike[/skill][skill]Illusionary Weaponry[/skill][skill]Heket's Rampage[/skill] Optional [skill]Call of Haste[/skill][skill]Comfort Animal[/skill][skill]Charm Animal[/skill][skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]

16 Ill
12 Beast

Good DPS/pressure, but crappy defense and healing (none I should say)
